Meta Ads error 2490408: performance goal isn't available
Meta refuses an ad set whose performance goal does not fit the campaign's objective. Adplane adds the goals that do.

What it means
Each Meta campaign objective, such as Sales, Leads, Engagement or Traffic, allows some performance goals and not others. Meta refuses an ad set whose goal is not one of them, with error subcode 2490408. Two other ad set settings bring the same error: a Page named in an engagement ad set's promoted object, and a conversion goal on a sales campaign with no pixel and event.
Adplane reads the campaign's objective and adds a sentence to Meta's message, for example: "The campaign's objective is OUTCOME_SALES; optimization goals that work for it include OFFSITE_CONVERSIONS, LANDING_PAGE_VIEWS, LINK_CLICKS, REACH, IMPRESSIONS, VALUE."
How to fix it
- Usually, let your assistant retry. It reads the hint and tries again with a goal that fits.
- If you chose the goal, pick one the hint lists, or change the campaign's objective to one that allows your goal.
- On an engagement campaign, leave the Page out of the ad set's promoted object. The hint says so when this is the cause.
- On a sales campaign with a conversion goal, name the pixel and the conversion event, for example the Purchase event on your site's pixel.
Create the ad set again with a performance goal that works for this campaign's objective.

Does this error mean something is wrong with my ad account?
